Abstract:The maintenance process of three faults cases of Varian Clinac IX linear accelerator in our hospital was listed in this paper,
and the causes of the faults and the maintenance results were analyzed. The first case was CARR and FOIL interlock fault. According
to the error message prompted by the system, the S9 switch was replaced first. After re-executing the Carrousel calibration procedure
again, the S4 switch signal was prompted to be abnormal. According to the signal trend, it was determined that the No.4 signal line
of W32 cable was faulty, and the fault was eliminated after line adjustment. The second case was the fault of KV source (KVS)
arm. The system prompted that the position of each joint of KVS arm was not corrected. After calibration with the backup motion
control box, it was found that the arm could only retract. Then, the fault of motor driving board and I/O board was eliminated through
the exchange test. Further troubleshooting confirmed that the No.5 signal line of W112 cable was open circuit, and the fault was
eliminated after the line adjustment and calibration procedures were performed. The third case was HWFA interlock fault, which was
mostly related to the moving parts. After checking one by one, it was determined that the HWFA interlock was caused by the poor
contact between S1 and S2 switches. After adjusting the chain tension, the fault was eliminated. Through the maintenance of three
cases of fault, we had a deeper understanding of the working principle and physical structure of Varian Clinac IX linear accelerator,
which could find and solve the faults faster, improve the working efficiency and the service quality of the equipment, and provide
better sevivce for clinical services.
