Abstract:Objective To provide a new positioning method and auxiliary device for precise surgical resection of breast tumor. Methods 13 patients with breast cancer were selected. Before MRI examination, patients wore positioning aids to obtain prone position MR images similar to breast supine position, and then imported Mimics and 3-Matic software to design 3D reconstruction of breast and 3D positioning guide of tumor. Before operation, the guide was placed on the surface of breast, and methylene blue solution was injected to dye the tumor edge to locate the tumor edge. Results The median distance from tumor edge to tissue cutting edge was measured in 13 patients. And all patients had clear cut edge. The median distance from tumor edge to tissue resection edge using this improved technique was (1.6±0.05) cm. That of Korea’s existing method was (1.86±0.11) cm (t =-7.1, P < 0.001). And the comparison between the two was statistically significant. Conclusion The use of positioning aids can reduce the number of breast MR images in supine position, and the positioning guide can accurately locate the tumor edge. This method does not increase the extra pain of patients, reduces the operation time, and ensures the accurate tumor resection. It can lay a foundation for accurate guidance of breast tumor intraoperative localization and breast conserving surgery.
