Abstract:Objective To investigate the application of ultrasound in diagnosis of vascular endothelial
functions, carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) and cardiac functions in youth obesity patients with
hypertension. Methods High resolution ultrasound was applied to detect vascular endothelial functions,
CIMT, the degree of carotid artery atherosclerosis, cardiac systolic and diastolic functions in Youth
Obesity with Hypertension Group (40 cases), Normal Weight Youth with Hypertension Group (40
cases), Youth Obesity with Normal Blood Pressure Group (40 cases) and Control Group (40 healthy
volunteers). Results The baseline diameter of brachial artery of Youth Obesity with Hypertension Group
was higher than that of Control Group, with statistically significant difference (P<0.05); the baseline
diameter of brachial artery of Normal Weight Youth with Hypertension Group was higher than that of
Control Group, with statistically significant difference (P<0.05). The FMD (Flow Mediated Dilation)
of vascular endothelium of Youth Obesity with Hypertension Group was significantly lower than that
of Control Group (P<0.01). IMT of Youth Obesity with Hypertension Group was obviously higher than
that of Control Group (P<0.01); no statistically significant difference was seen between Youth Obesity
with Normal Blood Pressure Group and Control Group (P>0.05). IVSTd (Inter-Ventricular Septal
Thickness at Diastole) and LVPWTd (Left Ventricular Posterior Wall Thickness at End-Diastole) of
Youth Obesity with Hypertension Group were significantly higher than those of Control Group, with
statistically significant differences (P<0.05). Remarkably lower Ve (Early Diastolic Peak Velocity) and
obviously higher Va (End Diastolic Peak Velocity) were seen in Youth Obesity with Hypertension Group
in contrast with Control Group; Youth Obesity with Hypertension Group also showed significantly
lower Ve/Va than Control Group and Youth Obesity with Normal Blood Pressure Group. The mSLs
(Mean Systolic Strain Rate), mSrLe (Mean Peak Early Diastolic Longitudinal Strain Rate), mSrLe/
mSrLa (Mean Peak Longitudinal Strain Rate During Late Diastole) of Youth Obesity with Hypertension
Group were significantly lower than Control Group; while, the mSrLs and mSrLa of Youth Obesity with
Hypertension Group were significantly higher than Control Group, with statistically significant difference
(both P<0.05). Conclusion High frequency ultrasound examinations can be used to make an effective and noninvasive assessment of vascular endothelial functions and CIMT in youth obesity, which provides
more accurate noninvasive diagnostic information for clinical treatment of the patients.
