Abstract:Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an emerging branch of medical endoscopy, which can
rapidly acquire high-resolution 3D images. The advancement of OCT catheter design enables OCT for
the diagnostics of various diseases near tissue surface. The clinical translation of OCT is accelerating in
many fields such as cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, pulmonary diseases and urinary
diseases. Rotation distortion (RD) is a common problem with OCT endoscopy, which reveals the
mechanical properties of the catheter and may severely deteriorate the integrity of images. Currently,
no standard provides definition or testing method for RD. In this paper, the characteristic of RD was
discussed and a quantitative method to evaluate RD was proposed. The results provided useful reference
for the quality control of OCT endoscopy.
