Abstract:Objective To build a smart outpatient pharmacy, to reduce the workload of pharmacists and improve the work efficiency
of outpatient pharmacy. Methods The Internet of Things and artificial intelligence technology were applied to build drug logistics
transportation system and drug information platform, and the work content of outpatient pharmacy including drug requisition, drug
maintenance, drug distribution, and drug inventory was optimized, and then the smart outpatient pharmacy was built. The effect of
the smart outpatient pharmacy was verified by comparing parameters before and after the implementation such as pharmacist working
hours, average dispensing speed during peak period, discrepancies in drug dispensing and patient satisfaction levels. Results After
the smart outpatient pharmacy was established, the monthly working hours per pharmacist in outpatient pharmacy were shortened
from (257.43±7.58) h to (16.52±1.10) h. The average dispensing and distribution time of each prescription in the peak period was
reduced from (36.53±0.68) s to (27.09±0.28) s. The number of discrepancies in drug dispensing decreased from 3 to 0. Patient
satisfaction with convenience services, waiting time and service attitude significantly improved, and the differences were statistically
significant (P<0.05). Conclusion The working mode of smart outpatient pharmacy can greatly reduce the manpower and time
costs in the process of drug circulation in the outpatient pharmacy. It reduces the workload of pharmacists and improves the work
efficiency of the outpatient pharmacy.
