Abstract:Objective To build a pilot application of smart wards based on the Internet of Things (IoT) information platform, to
explore the application value of smart wards. Methods Through the deployment of intelligent communication central network in
the second Department of Burn in the 14th ward of the east of Affiliated Hospital of Jiangnan University, the decentralized multiple
application systems were docked to the IoT information platform to realize the intelligent collection, interaction, intelligent nursing
screen, infusion monitoring, intelligent escort, mobile rounds, and mobile nursing services in the smart ward. A total of 142
discharged patients from the second Department of Burns in the 14th ward of the east from July to December 2021 after the use of
the smart ward were selected as the study group, and 150 discharged patients without the use of the smart ward from January to June
2021 were selected as the control group, then the differences in medical quality, service efficiency and medical-patient satisfaction
between the two groups were compared. Results In terms of medical quality, the incidence of adverse events, the incidence of errors
in the execution of medical orders, and the implementation rate of preoperative safety check in the study group were significantly
better than those in the control group (P<0.001). In terms of service efficiency, the average length of stay, the average time to collect
signs and the average response time to ring in the study group were significantly shorter than those in the control group (P<0.001).
In terms of medical-patient satisfaction, the patient satisfaction and medical satisfaction were significantly higher than that of
control group (P<0.001). Conclusion The application of smart wards based on the IoT information platform plays a positive role
in optimizing ward workflows, improving patient experience, reducing the workload of medical staff and improving the quality of
medical care.
