Abstract:Objective To investigate the application of fat suppression T2-weighted and diffusion-weighted MR imaging
in central lung cancer with atelectasis. Methods A total of 35 patients with central lung cancer combined with atelectasis that
admitted to our hospital during May 2016 to May 2018 were enrolled in this study. Signal intensity of region of interest (ROI)
and background noise in fat suppression T2WI and DWI MR images were measured. Signal intensity ratio (SIR) and noise ratio
(CNR) of lung cancer and atelectasis tissue were calculated. The boundary display of lung cancer or atelectasis tissues were observed
in T2WI, DWI and fusion MR imagings. The image quality and diagnostic efficacy of T2WI, DWI and fusion imaging
were compared.. Results The SIR and CNR of DWI were higher than those of fat suppression T2WI (P<0.05). Whereas the
positive rate of fusion image was significantly higher than that of fat suppression T2WI in displaying the boundary of tumor
or atelectasis tissue (P<0.05). Conclusion DWI is capable of improving the ability of fat suppression T2WI to distinguish
lung cancer and atelectasis, while fat suppression T2WI can provide more anatomical information for DWI. The two imaging
methods complement each other.
