Abstract:The Ussing Chamber was developed by the Danish biologist Ussing as a mean to understand
the phenomenon of active NaCl transport, which had attracted more and more attention among the
biomedical industry for its simplicity and practicability. The Ussing Chamber provided a physiological
system to measure the transport of ions, nutrients and drugs across various epithelial tissues. It measured
the trans-epithelial potential, short-circuit current and trans-epithelial resistance of the plasm membrane
through microelectrodes. With the progress of science and technology, the Ussing Chamber had become
more and more widely applied. This paper reviewed the researches about Ussing Chamber from
national and international studies in recent years, and introduced the design, structure, principle, and its
application in the field of biomedicine, as well as its application and development trend.
