Abstract:Objective To understand the research progress, hot trend and future development direction of functional magnetic
resonance imaging (fMRI) in the field of cognitive function. Methods The Chinese and English literatures on the application of
fMRI in cognitive function research in CNKI and Web of Science database from 2012 to 2022 were searched. With the help of
CiteSpace and VOSviewer software, country, author’s cooperation relationship and affiliation, the cited frequency and keywords were
visually analyzed. Results In the CNKI database, there were 1220 literatures included in the study. The study found that the number
of publications increased year by year, with few cooperative groups and close cooperation within institutions. Xuanwu Hospital of
Capital Medical University had the highest number of publications. The frequency of keywords “low-frequency amplitude” and
“functional connection” was high, and the research focused on diseases such as diabetes, depression, dementia, and concerned about
cognitive functions such as attention, memory, short-term memory and executive function. In the Web of Science database, 10056
literatures were included in the study, in which authors formed a number of cooperative groups, and the groups cooperated closely
with each other. Harvard Medical School had published the highest number of papers. Key words such as “functional connection”,
“brain network” and “default mode network” had a high frequency. These literatures focused on diseases such as Alzheimer’s
disease and mild cognitive impairment, and concerned about attention, working memory, episodic memory and executive function.
Conclusion The research interest of fMRI in cognitive function remains stable in both Chinese and English literatures, and cognitive
function research has been carried out in a variety of diseases.
