Abstract:Objective To study the effects of Adaptive Statistical iterative Reconstruction Veo (ASiR-V)
on the image quality of head Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) scanning with different tube
currents. Methods A PH-3 angiography phantom of head was scanned at 120 kV tube voltage with 0.5 s
rotation time as well as different tube currents, including the intensities of 50, 100, 150, 250, 400 and
500 mA. The received images were reconstructed by 0% ASiR-V, 30%, 50%, 70% and 90% ASiR-V. Then the
Computed Tomography Dose Index volume (CTDIvol), Standard Deviation (SD), Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR)
and Contrast to Noise Ratio (CNR) was measured and recorded. Thus characteristic curve of CT value was
plotted. Finally, the CT image data were reconstructed with Volume Rendering (VR) and Maximum Intensity
Projection (MIP) methods, then evaluated subjectively in five-point scale by two radiologists with 5 and 10
years' experience respectively. Results With the increase of ASiR-V weight, SD was significantly decreased
whilst SNR and CNR were both increased. The noise reduction rate was significantly correlated with the
ASiR-V level. The characteristic curve of CT value indicated ASiR-V had some ability on distinguishing
the vascular signal and the background noise. The subjective evaluation showed that tube current of
150 mA in accordance with 50% ASiR-V for intracranial vascular CTA could result in a good diagnosis
effect (rating score≥4). Conclusion ASiR-V could improve the image quality of head CTA availably.
