Abstract:Objective To study the Wi-Fi Real-Time Location System (RTLS) network architectures and
related technologies and analyze its applications in the medical system. Methods Comparative analysis
of the differences among Wi-Fi, Zigbee and others communication methods was conducted. And RTLS
issues on system components, structure, functional framework and features were analyzed. Researches
on system applications in hospital management were made. Results Wi-Fi RTLS had the advantages of
low initial investment and mature technologies and could be effectively realized in real-time location,
including hospital staff, patients and equipment positioning although it had drawbacks in some aspects
such as power consumption. Conclusion Wi-Fi RTLS can effectively satisfy the hospital requirements of
real-time positioning, and it has been successfully applied in some medical and healthcare units and will
have wide range of applications in the future.
