Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical application value of 160 mm wide detector axial scanning mode in chest CT examination of children under non sedative state. Methods A total of 100 children with routine chest CT examination were randomly divided into two groups for prospective study. In A group (n=50), the patient underwent axial scanning mode with 160 mm detector. In B group (n=50), the patient was natural sleep or sedated by chloral hydrate for the CT examination with 80 mm detector helical scanning mode. Subjective image quality was independently assessed by 2 radiologists based on a score system. CT number and standard deviation (SD) in the left atrium were measured to calculate signal to noise ratio (SNR). The scanning time, volume CT dose index (CTDIvol) and dose length product (DLP) of each patient were recorded, and the effective dose (ED) was calculated. Results There was no significant difference in subjective quality score and SNR between the two groups (P>0.05). There was significant difference in mean scan time between A group and B group (P<0.001). CTDIvol (1.18 ±0.24 mGy) in A group was significantly different from that in B group (1.33±0.30 mGy) (P=0.01). The ED value of A group (0.61±0.17 mSv) was 31.4% lower than that of B group (0.89±0.25 mSv), with significant statistical difference (P<0.001). Conclusion The 160 mm wide body detector has the advantages of fast axial scanning speed, low radiation dose, no need to sedate the children to complete chest CT imaging, and does not affect the image quality, so it has good clinical application value.
