Abstract:Clinical engineers, who play the same important role as doctors, nurses and other medical technicians, guarantee the quality
and safety of medical equipment in hospitals. In cases of major public health emergencies, the value and importance of clinical
engineers is more prominent. Based on previous research on role evolution of clinical engineers, combined with the responsibilities
and performance of clinical engineers in our hospital in SARS, avian influenza and coronavirus disease 2019 epidemic, this study
summarized the responsibilities of clinical engineers during major public health emergencies, and discussed their role orientation.
It was revealed that main responsibilities of clinical engineers might be summarized into four dimensions: daily work, emergency
deployment, material identification and service assurance, involving medical device procurement management, installation, check and
acceptance, application training, emergency maintenance, quality control, technical support, emergency deployment, and protection
material identification. This paper clarifies the role positioning and provides references for clinical medical engineers in other medical
institutions to better carry out epidemic prevention and control work and career development.
