Abstract:Objective To understand the structure, length and volume of different extracorporeal circulation pipelines for
hemodialysis, and compare the differences in structure, length and volume of different pipelines. Methods Two kinds of general
pipelines (A and B) and one special pipeline C were selected as the research objects. The structure of each pipeline and the fixing
position of extracorporeal circulation components in a certain model of dialyzer were described. The length and volume of each
extracorporeal circulation pipeline were measured by tape measure and syringe, respectively. The difference of length and volume
between general pipelines and special pipeline was compared. Results The structure of the general pipelines was similar to that of
the special pipeline, but the inner diameter of the artery-pump segment of the special pipeline was smaller than that of the general
pipeline. The length of the pump pipes-arterial pot section of two general pipelines was too long, which was 4.8 times and 5.2 times
of the special pipeline, respectively. The volume of arterial section of two general pipelines was about 30 mL more than that of the
special pipeline. Conclusion The general extracorporeal circulation pipelines for hemodialysis should be adapted to dialyzers in
order to reduce the blood volume of extracorporeal circulation and the contact area between blood and pipelines.
