Abstract:Objective To re-evaluate the safety of the intramedullary nail in clinical application. Methods Using centralized focus
monitoring method, a total of 288 patients with limb fractures treated with intramedullary nails in 11 medical institutions in our
province from January 2014 to June 2015 were monitored in the conditions of usage situation, patient information and adverse events.
Results The results showed that the incidence of postoperative adverse events was 2.8%. There was no significant difference among
different brands. The main adverse events of intramedullary nailing were incision infection and mainly occurred in male patients with
an average age of 47.1 years. Conclusion Intramedullary nailing technique has low probability of adverse events and high safety. It
should be used in a standardized and reasonable manner, when the indications for surgical treatment, the medical environment and
technique, and economic condition permit.
