Abstract:Objective To compare the safety and effectiveness of preclinical application of ultrasound osteotome and high-speed
drill through preclinical animal experiments, and provide a basis for clinical application. Methods Double door laminoplasty was
performed on the vertebral bones of Beagle dog with ultrasonic osteotome and high-speed drill, respectively. The completion time
of single lamina double door laminoplasty and the amount of haemorrhagia on the vertebral cutting surface were compared. The
changes of microstructure of surgical incision surface and the pathological changes of the surrounding tissues were evaluated by light
microscope and scanning electron microscope. Results The experimental results showed that both ultrasounic osteotome and highspeed
drill had good ability, and neither had obvious pathological changes, but ultrasounic osteotome had less intraoperative blood
loss and less tissue thermal damage. Conclusion Double door laminoplasty with ultrasonic osteotome has the advantages of less
bleeding and less thermal damage. The safety and effectiveness of ultrasonic osteotome are similar to that of high-speed drilling.
