Abstract:A reflective polarization-maintaining fiber temperature sensor (PMF-TS) with advantages such as high precision, low
cost and good reciprocity was developed based on the temperature birefringence effects of the polarization maintaining optical
fiber. The PMF-TS was small volume, light weight and could be integrated with laser output optical fiber to consist the probe of
the multifunctional laser treatment. Through real-time and accurate monition on the change of the target tissue temperature, the
output energy and pulse frequency of semiconductor laser could be closed-loop controlled, which could meet the needs of precise
minimally invasive laser thermotherapy for deep vivo tumor tissue. The prototype was developed and tested, and the results showed
that the sensor resolution was 0.01℃, which was far better than the 18B20 digital temperature sensor as well as the PT100 platinum
resistance temperature sensor. After the closed-loop control, the temperature range semiconductor laser could be controlled in -40℃-
70℃, and the fluctuation of output power for semiconductor laser could be controlled in less than ±0.1 W.
