Application of Computer Aided Image Classification in Leukemia Morphology Diagnosis

Abstract:The classification and count of blood cells has a great value in the diagnosis and assessment of leukemia. Traditional
manual microscopic examination of blood samples has drawbacks such as strenuous and time-consuming, with high dependence
on the operator’s skill. Blood cell analyzer and flow cytometer are fast and accurate, but they can not detect morphological
abnormalities of cells. Computer aided image classification technology can provide cellular morphological information. This paper
reviewed the basic process and related techniques in blood cell classification and their application in leukemia cytodiagnosis. Based
on these information, we will improve the algorithm and extend it to the identification of bone marrow cells, thereby laying a
foundation for further realization of automatic classification of bone marrow cells.
