Abstract：Up to now, the materials used to vascular stents are mainly 316L stainless steel and L605 cobalt-base alloys. A large
amount of clinical outcomes indicated that there were restenosis after stents implantation. In these two materials, there are a certain
proportion of nickel added to improve the mechanical property, however, Ni ion will dissolve out when the materials were immersed
in corrosion medium. Biomedical Ni-free stainless steel is an original kind of austenitic steel with element N other than element
Ni, which will avoid in-stent restenosis. The mechanical property, corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of material should be
evaluated before used for vascular stent. So the comparison between Ni-free austenitic stainless steel and traditional stainless steel
were performed to manifest the advantages of Ni-free stainless steel used to vascular stent in this paper. The current research progress and product development status were reviewed, and the prospect of Ni-free stainless steel vascular stent’s application was looked
