Assessment on Blood Gas Analysis of Samples Sent by a Pneumatic Tube System

Abstract:Objective To explore the influence of pneumatic tube system (PTS) on the results of blood gas analysis. Methods 60 patients were selected, and radial artery blood samples of each were collected and grouped by transportation: control group, PTS at low speed and PTS at high speed. The results detected from the samples transported by 3 transportation systems were compared. Results There were no significant differences in the results of blood gas analysis in the samples transported by PTS at low speed compared with control group. There were significant differences in the results of potential of hydrogen, partial pressure of carbon dioxide, oxygen partial pressure and oxygen saturation in the samples transported by PTS at high speed compared with control group, while the differences were not big enough to influence clinical diagnosis. Conclusion The PTS can be used to transport the samples of blood gas analysis tests, and it would be best to take the low speed transportation.
