Abstract:Objective A newborn defect intervention system was established based on No.1 Military
Medical Project, which was intended for standardized and convenient management of the newborn
information in military hospitals and successful implementation of services for the newborn. Methods
With adoption of C/S (Client/Server) architecture, the system was developed based on visual
programming language Powerbuilder 9.0, which mainly consisted of three modules including the
management module, examination and inspection module as well as the consultation module. Then,
sharing of examination and inspection data was enabled by establishing the data interface with laboratory
instruments. Results With the adoption of the system, the newborn information could be acquired by
nurses in an easy and accurate manner. The examination and inspection module made it possible for the
inspection departments to complete the application submitting and result reporting. All the information
could be saved, printed and fed back in a unified way. Conclusion Application of this system contributed
to the standardized management of the newborn defect intervention, substantial reduction of the workload
and error rate for medical staff, as well as the improve of work efficiency.
