Abstract:With the progress of the research on basilar invagination (BI) with atlantoaxial dislocation (AAD), the surgery of the
skull base area has been widely used. Due to the complexity of the structure of the skull base and the difficulty of observing it, the
exacerbation of the symptoms caused by the failure of the first operation is not an isolated phenomenon. As a result, the revision
surgery for the failed first operation is also receiving more and more attention. Revision surgery is more difficult and complicated
than the primary surgery, and there are few relevant literatures. This paper aims to review the progress of revision surgery in BI
patients with AAD, and explain it from four perspectives: the reasons for revision surgery, surgical treatment strategies, related
assistive technologies, and the future prospects of such revision surgery.
