Abstract:Objective To construct a smooth information exchange channel between the clinical laboratory and patients. Methods Took Windows XP as the network platform, an automatic SMS (Short Message Service) follow-up system was developed based on C/S (Client/Server) infrastructure. The system applied the Oracle database for data management and took GSM MODEM as the text message sending device. Results The follow-up system automatically extracted and integrated the patients’ inspection information from LIS (Laboratory Information System), and then sent this information to patients promptly via SMS. Moreover, it also provided guidance, suggestions and precautions to patients accordingly, and collected feedback and opinions from patients meanwhile. Conclusion Automatic SMS follow-up realized the information exchange between the clinical laboratory and patients in an effective way, which also reduced a large number of human resources.
