Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of color ultrasound-guided PCD (Percutaneous Catheter Drainage) in treatment of tuberculous iliopsoas abscesses. Methods Twenty-one patients with 27 tuberculous iliopsoas abscesses who have been treated in the hospital from February 2008 to February 2012 were selected and retrospectively analyzed. All the patients were treated with the color ultrasound-guided PCD on the basis of systemic anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy. Results The drainage duration ranged from 15 to 26 days with the average duration of 19 days. During the 10-to-24-month follow-up period, 20 patients were clinically cured without recurrence and complications; 1 patient was clinically cured with the second drainage because of recurrence. Conclusion Color ultrasound-guided percutaneous catheter drainage has proven itself as a minimally-invasive and easy-to-operate method in safe and effective treatment of tuberculous iliopsoas abscesses.
