Research on Synchronization Accuracy of Parallel Port Between Measurement

Abstract:Objective To explore the timing accuracy of USB to parallel port and the time error between synchronization signals,
and realize the high-precision time synchronization between measurement equipment for brain science, so as to accurately complete
stimulation-response experiments related to brain potential. Methods Softwares named PsychToolbox, PsychoPy, E-prime, and
OpenSesame to present visual stimulation, and logic analyzer were used to collect data from USB to parallel port. Results The
time error of USB to parallel port under PsychToolbox and PsychoPy was between -5.290 ms and -3.168 ms, which was less than
that between E-prime and OpenSesame; the timing precision of USB to parallel port under PsychToolbox was better than that of
PsychoPy, E-prime and OpenSesame, which could reach (100±0.193) ms. Conclusion This paper clarifies the timing precision
of USB to parallel port and the time error between synchronization signals, which can provide reliable guidance for accurate
measurement of high-precision stimulus-response experiments.
