Abstract:Objective To explore the role of a novel loading basket in reducing the damage rate of laparoscopic surgical instruments
during transport and sterilization. Methods A total of 144 laparoscopic surgical instruments used between July 2015 and June 2016
were defined as the control group, and another set of 144 laparoscopic surgical instruments loaded by novel loading basket between
July 2016 and June 2017 were considered as the observation group. A retrospective analysis was performed to compare the damage
rates of laparoscopic surgical instruments during transport and sterilization before and after utilizing the novel loading basket.
Results A total of 39 laparoscopes were damaged in the control group, with a damage rate of 27.08%. There were 12 laparoscopes
damaged in the observation group, with a damage rate of 8.33%. The difference between two groups was statistically significant
(P<0.05). Conclusion The novel loading basket can prevent the laparoscopic surgical instruments from sliding during transportation
and sterilization, avoiding instrument damage caused by collision among laparoscopes or collision between laparoscopes and the
loading basket, protecting the instruments, reducing the loss of laparoscopic surgical instruments, and decreasing the operation cost.
