Abstract:Objective To explore the effectiveness of application of 3.0T MR 3D-FIESTA (Three Dimension-Fast Imaging Employing Steady State Acquisition) and 3D-TOF-MRA (Three Dimension-in diagnosis of neurovascular compression of HFS(Hemifacial Spasm). Methods Altogether 25 cases of patients with HFS were selected and scanned by using 3D-FIESTA and 3D-TOF-MRA. Multi-planar reformation was used to observe the relationship between the facial nerve and surrounding vessels so as to evaluate their relevance with clinical symptoms. Results 3D-FIESTA and 3D-TOF-MRA showed facial nerve vascular compression or contact in 21 cases on the symptomatic sides and 5 cases on the asymptomatic sides among 25 patients, with statistically significant differences (P﹤0.05), indicating that the clinical symptoms of hemi-facial spasm were closely associated with vascular compression. Conclusion As a preferred method for diagnosis of hemi-facial spasm, the application of the combination of 3D-FIESTA and 3D-TOF-MRA could clearly display the relationship between the facial nerve and surrounding vessels, which played an important role in etiological diagnosis of hemi-facial spasm.
