Abstract:Objective To evaluate the metabolic changes of posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) in patients of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) with single-voxel proton-magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Methods Twenty AD and 20 matched healthy controls were studied with single-voxel 1H-MRS in PCC using Siemens 3.0 T Trio MR scanner. Syngo B15 spectrum analysis software of Siemens Trio Tim 3.0T MRI automatically finished the curve fitting, filling, fourier tramsforming and phasing, baseline adjustments, and calulated the integral value of related crest area. Results Compared with normal group, the ratio of NAA/Cr and NAA/mI of PCC were significantly decreased and the ratio of mI/Cr was significantly increased in AD group (P<0.05). The ratio of NAA/mI showed positive correlation with MMSE in AD patients (r=0.699, P=0.001). While mI/Cr was negative correlated with MMSE (r=-0.648, P=0.002). Conclusion AD patients have significant different metabolic levels in PCC. MRS can be used for early screening and preliminary diagnosis in AD patients.
