Abstract:Objective To explore the scanning techniques and parameters of TMJ (Temporal Mandibular Joint) MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). Methods MRI scanning from the obliquely sagittal and obliquely coronary angles was performed in 28 cases of patients respectively on the closed-end and open-end positions of TMJ. The scanning sequences were T1W-aTSE, T2W-TSE, T2-SPAIR and PDWI. Results High-quality images were obtained from scanning of all the patients with clear and complete reveal of the anatomical morphology of TMJ. The imaging sequences allowed good images of articular disc, articular fossa, joint gap, condylar bone form, disc-surrounded tissues and lateral pterygoid muscle. Conclusion Appropriate selection of patients' postures and scanning angles together with optimized combination of 3.0 T MRI scanning sequence and parameters was of good value in revealing the anatomical morphology and pathological changes of TMJ and surrounding tissues which resulted in clinical symptoms or signs.
