Abstract:Objective To discuss the CT findings of viral pneumonia in adults. Methods The CT findings of 23 clinically-confirmed adult patients with viral pneumonia were retrospectively analyzed, including the morphology, scope, concomitant changes and development that were associated with pathological changes. Results Among all the cases in this study, ground-glass-like shadow was revealed in 20 cases; 13 had the signs of crushed stones; small patchy shadow in 15 cases; large patchy opacification shadow in 5 cases; signs of bronchi in 15 cases; small nodal shadow in 6 cases; net-like sub-pleural shadows in 5 cases; streaky shadow in 7 cases; the thickened bronchial vascular bundle in 6 cases;bilateral pleural effusion in 18 cases; thickened pleurae in 3 cases; pneumothorax in 1 case; enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes in 4 cases; enlarged hilus pulmonis in 3 cases. All the pulmonary lobes and segments on the bilateral sises were involved in 17 cases. During the absorption period, ground-glass shadow and small patch shadow were revealed in 11 patients to have faster absorption than the net-like shadow; whereas, 8 patients showed slightly faster absorption in internal lesions than external ones. Conclusion Viral pneumonia adult patients in this study demonstrated the main CT features of interstitial lesions accompanied with involved lung parenchyma of different degrees and had typical manifestations of ground-glass shadow and crushed stones that were often associated with pleural effusion with non-specific distribution of lesions in the lungs.
