Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of computer tomography (CT) maximum intensity projection (MIP) images with
different projection thickness and orientation on the display of pneumoconiosis nodules, and to observe pneumoconiosis nodules with
MIP images with appropriate projection thickness and orientation. Methods CT images of lung 1 mm slice thickness in 30 patients
with pneumoconiosis were performed on coronal and axial MIP images of projection thickness 5 mm, 7 mm and 10 mm, respectively.
In the coronal and axial images of the same patient with different projection thickness, the same plane and position with the densest
nodules as a region of interest were selected to draw the positive circle of the display area of 8 cm2, and the number and display of
small nodules in the interested area were counted. The differences of coronal and axial images of small pneumoconiosis nodules were
compared, and the differences of MIP with different projection thickness on pneumoconiosis nodules were compared. Results The
proportion of nodules identified in the projection thickness of 5 mm, 7 mm, 10 mm were 60.16%, 68.24%, 67.00% in axial MIP, and
67.86%, 73.26% and 67.38% in coronal MIP, respectively. Conclusion MIP images of coronal projected thickness 7 mm are the most
valuable in showing the number of small pneumoconiosis nodules and provide a more accurate basis for the diagnosis and staging of
pneumoconiosis.
