Abstract:Objective To explore the assessed value of superb micro-vascular imaging (SMI) in evaluating the thickness of carotid
atherosclerotic plaques and neovascularization in obese young and middle-aged diabetic patients. Methods A total of 120 cases of
obese young and middle-aged diabetes patients who found the inhomogeneous carotid artery hypoechoic plaques in the department
of ultrasonic medicine of our hospital during January to March 2016 were selected. The patients were divided into three groups
according to the enhancement of neovascular blood flow signal in the plaques: non-enhancement group (n=22), dot-enhancement
group (n=60) and linear enhancement group (n=38), the changes of thickness of carotid artery plaques within 1 year in each group
were detected and compared. The grading of new blood vessels in the different thickness of plaque were evaluated and compared with
the results of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) test. The blood flow parameters of new blood vessels in patches in each group
were compared. Results Compared with that at admission. The plaque thickness of the three groups was significantly increased one
years later (P<0.05), and the linear enhancement group was higher than the dot- enhancement group (P<0.05), and dot-enhancement
group was higher than the non-enhancement group (P<0.05). The plaque thickness of carotid atherosclerosis were positively
correlated with the density of new blood vessels in plaque (rSMI=0.713, P=0.021丨 rCEUS=0.652, P=0.034). There were significant
difference between 3 groups in peak intensity of carotid atherosclerotic plaques (P<0.05), while there was no significant difference in time to
peak (P>0.05). Conclusion Plaque thickness is closely related to neovascularization. SMI can achieve the diagnostic effect of CEUS.
The detection of neovascularization by SMI has the advantages of non-invasive, simple, safe and inexpensive, which is helpful to
assess the stability of carotid atherosclerotic plaque.
