Abstract:Objective To compare the damage of different sterilization methods to endoscopic surgical instruments (ESI), and to
get the best sterilization method to related equipments. Methods Each group’s ten separation-forceps belonging to the ESI were
respectively processed with 100 times by three popularly used sterilization methods including pressure-steam sterilization (PsS),
ethylene-oxide sterilization (EoS) and low-temperature-plasma sterilization of hydrogen peroxide (LtpSHP) within one year, then
the relevant characteristics the instruments after disinfection in different ways including the smoothness of the joint, the anastomosis
of forcep-head, the roughness and corrosion of stem and handle, and the hardness of head and handle were evaluated and compared
among three groups. Results The anastomosis of forcep-head and the corrosion of stem and handle were significantly different
among three groups (P<0.05). In addition, the changes of stem’s roughness compared to before sterilization were 0.465±0.041 μm,
0.086±0.009 μm and 0.762±0.082 μm with the PsS, the EoS and the LtpSHP methods respectively, which were significantly
different among three groups (P<0.001). And the changes of the forcep-head’s hardness compared to before sterilization were
-59.1±12.2 HV0.2, -10.7±2.5 HV0.2 and -26.8±5.8 HV0.2 respectively, which were also significantly different among three groups
(P<0.001). Conslusion The PsS method caused the most damage to the ESI, the middle one was the LtpSHP method, and the EoS
method had the smallest damage to the ESI overall.
