Abstract:A new eye tracker was developed to estimate the distance between the object and the eye. A total of 23 subjects participated
in the experiment. Each visual task was tested from near (35 cm), medium (70 cm) and far (400 cm) distances. The distance between
the reflective center and the center of the pupil was calculated, and the actual distance was estimated through data calibration. The
median accuracy of different calibration distances was 92%. When the standard distance was 70 cm, the accuracy of 70 cm calibration
distance was significantly higher than that of the other two calibration distances (P<0.05). While when the standard distance was
35 cm and 400 cm, the accuracy of different calibration distances had no significant difference (P>0.05). There was no practical
difference between the estimated distance results and the standard distance. Based on the results of accuracy and distance estimation,
the new device has good reliability and accuracy. When using the eye tracker, 70 cm is recommended as the calibration distance.
