Abstract:Objective To investigate the value of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) histogram in differentiating papillary renal cell
carcinoma (pRCC) from chromophobe cell renal cell carcinoma (ChRCC). Methods The data of 23 cases of pRCC and 20 cases of ChRCC
were analyzed retrospectively. Patients underwent conventional MRI scan, enhanced scan and diffusion weighted imaging (Diffusionweighted
imaging DWI). The parameters of ADC histogram of the two groups were measured, including minimum, average, median,
maximum, skewness and kurtosis. The differences of each parameter and their diagnostic efficacy were analyzed. Results The minimum,
average and median values of ADC histogram of pRCC were lower than those of ChRCC, while the maximum values were higher than
those of ChRCC (P<0.05). Positive skewness distribution was the dominant factor in pRCC, while negative skewness distribution was the
dominant factor in ChRCC. The skewness of pRCC and ChRCC had statistical significance (P<0.05), but the kurtosis had no statistical
significance (P>0.05). The discriminant diagnosis efficiency analysis of pRCC and ChRCC indicated that the sensitivity of maximum
value was the best (91.30%), the specificity of skewness value (80.00%) and the area under curve (0.773) were the best. Conclusion
ADC histogram has certain value in differentiating pRCC from ChRCC, and provides reference for clinical qualitative diagnosis.
