Abstract:Objective In this paper, we designed a new type of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) with flushing function,
and explored the rationality of the design scheme and the flushing speed. Methods We used the computational fluid dynamics in
Fluent software to simulate the flow rate, outlet pressure and liquid flow rate of two different kinds of new designed PICC flushing
sleeve at the given flushing speeds. Through analysis and comparison, an optimal design scheme of cutting seam and velocity setting
were selected. Results The PICC flushing sleeve with 3 slits had a significant decreasing trend of the parameters of each slit. While
the PICC flushing sleeve with 5 slits had more uniform distribution of the flow pressure, speed and liquid velocity of each slit. When
the washing speed was 50 mL/h, the blood flow velocity could be effectively accelerated. Conclusion The new PICC flushing sleeve
should be preliminarily designed as 5 slits on the tube wall with washing speed of 50 mL/h.
