Abstract:Objective A simplified and practical liver microwave ablation simulation model based on 2450 MHz water-cooled
slot microwave ablation antenna was established for the lack of such models of clinically frequently used antenna. Methods Finite
element analysis method was used to solve the electromagnetic waves propagation and bio-heat transfer coupling problem
based on simplified antenna and liver geometric structure. Liver dielectric properties and bio-heat transfer with phase change
was dynamically studied to acquire temperature distribution during ablation process. Results Calculation results of temperature
fields demonstrated that simulation models matched well with in vitro experiments on the aspects of morphological characteristics
of ablated area, tissue temperature changes and dimension of ablated tissue. Conclusion This proposed method and simulation
model based on commonly used antenna are practical and promising for clinical microwave ablation studies.
