Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical value of ultrasound evaluation and ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration cytology (US-FNAC) in diagnosing breast lumps. Methods The ultrasonic manifestations, US-FNAC results, followed-up and surgical pathology results of 96 patients with breast lumps were analyzed. Results The cytological diagnoses of 18 patients weren’t obtained while those of the other 78 patients (25 cases had underwent surgeries) were obtained through US-FNAC combined with ultrasound evaluation. The diagnose accordance rate of US-FNAC combined with ultrasound evaluation was 88.0% compared with the surgical pathology diagnoses. The sensitivity and specificity of US-FNAC in diagnosing breast cancer were 87.5% and 88.9%, respectively. Conclusion Ultrasonic evaluation combined with US-FNAC plays an important role in the correct handling of breast lumps.
