Abstract:Objective Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is one of the most important factors for the safety and availability of
medical electrical equipment. Radiated emission is the most troublesome test item. The investigation on the difference of emission
level between different ventilation modes may standardize the test on the EMC of ventilators, and enhance the efficiency of test.
Methods The control of ventilator under different ventilation modes depends on the pulse width modulation (PWM) signal. This
paper theoretically analyzed the relationship between PWM signal and emission level. On the other hand, experiments were also
performed. Results The experimental results showed that there was no obvious difference between the emission levels under
different ventilation modes with different PWM electric current. Theoretical analysis also supported this phenomenon. Conclusion
There is no significant difference on the EMI level under different ventilation modes. It is suggested that the test of the emission level
of the respirator can be tested only in one type of aeration mode instead of testing all the modes.
