Abstract:Objective To explore the effects of three different positions on using Baxter pump through
Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) tube continuous chemotherapy velocity. Methods
49 patients were performed a total of 180 cases of Baxter pump through PICC tube continuous
chemotherapy. According to the positions they took during the time period of 7:00~21:00, they were
divided into three groups: group 1 (supine), group 2 (sitting), group 3 (standing/walking position). Patients of
each group were performed 60 cases to observe and record their chemotherapy infusion flow velocity. Results
The results indicated that different positions have a significant impact on the flow velocity by using Baxter
pump through PICC tube continuous chemotherapy. The error rates of group 1, group 2 and group 3 were
8.33%, 18.33% and 26.67% respectively; the flow velocity of group 1 was close to the set time, group 2 was
slowly while group 3 was rapid. When compared among the three groups and intergroup,
the differences were
statistically significant: when compared among 3 groups, the χ2 =14.23, P<0.01; when compared between
group 1 and group 2, the χ2 =13.55, P<0.01; when compared between group 1 and group 3, the χ2 =10.36,
P<0.01; and when compared between groups 2 and group 3, the χ2 =10.55, P<0.01. Conclusion It is
recommended that patients, who are using Baxter pump via PICC tube continuous chemotherapy, take the
supine position as much as possible on the premise of not affecting daily life, so that the flow velocity of
chemotherapy infusion time can be within the normal range to achieve optimum chemotherapy efficacy.
