Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect on the prevention of pressure sore, a comparative study
was conducted by comparing the suspension air cushion bed with common air cushion bed on the time of
pressing red appearing and position of skin pressing red. Methods Thirty-two consecutive critically ill
patients who needed long-term bed rest because of coma were randomly divided into 2 groups: one for
suspension air cushion bed and the other for common air cushion bed. The patients were separately put on
the different air cushion bed and were all with a map type pressure measuring blanket. Then the positions
with the maximum pressure were observed, the position and the time of pressing red appearing were all
recorded. Results The maximum pressure point and the earliest time of the pressing red appearing were
all appeared in the sacroiliac of the patients. No matter which group, the periods from the beginning of
the research to the time of the pressing red appearing were more than 9 h. However, compared with the
common air cushion bed, the time of pressing red appearing of the suspension air cushion bed was later.
Conclusion The using of air cushion bed could prevent the happening of pressure sore effectively and
reduce the times of turning over for the critical ill patients. The effect on preventing pressure sore of the
suspension air cushion bed might be better than the common air cushion bed.
