Abstract:Objective To explore the correlation between preoperative mean color vessel density (MCVD)
tested by ultrasound and postoperative histopathological grade in pathology, micro vessel density (MVD)
in renal cell carcinoma. Methods 69 cases of renal cell carcinoma patients confirmed via surgical
pathology were examined with ultrasound preoperatively, and their MCVD were calculated according
to the results of color power angiography. After operation all the slices of tumor tissue specimens were
stained with routine hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining method and immunohistochemistry staining
method respectively. The tumor tissue specimens stained by HE were graded in histopothology.
Immunohlstochemistry staining was done with instant-type mouse anti-human CD34 monoclonal
antibody and used to calculate MVDs. Then MCVD, MVD and histopathological grades were analyzed
statistically. Results As MCVD value was higher in kidney lesion, the detected MVD value increased
more , both showing positive correlation (r=0.998, P<0.05) in this study. Histopathology was graded
Ⅰ-Ⅲ after operation. MVD and MCVD in different histopathological grades were different statistically
(P<0.05). Conclusion The preoperative MCVD value generated by ultrasound showed good correlation
with the postoperative histopathological grade as well as MVD, and ultrasonic detection had the
characteristics of no wound, repeatability, which could be used as a reliable method of preoperatively
evaluating angiogenesis in renal cell carcinoma. MCVD had important instructive clinical significance to
renal cell carcinoma for early diagnosis, treatment and evaluating prognosis, etc.
