Abstract:Objective To develop an inverse planning system for afterloading brachytherapy with computer programming. Methods Based on VC++ programming, the afterloading source applicator were reconstructed on a series of CT images of a patient with cervical cancer and then several stationary points which should be used in intensity-modulated optimization process were automatically activated. Then the activation time of these stationary points was calculated inversely with simulated annealing algorithm to implement the intensity-modulated optimization of afterloading dose. Then the afterloading dose and external irradiation dose were fused with 3D image registration technology as well as the dose distribution of the patient underwent internal and external irradiation was evaluated with equivalent dose in 2Gy/f (EQD2). Results The optimal afterloading therapy schedule in line with clinical requirements can be found inversely with the system which can give consideration to both of absorbed dose of target regions and limited radiation dose of vital organs. Conclusion The system with proprietary intellectual property rights can basically meet the individualized requirements of afterloading brachytherapy.
