Abstract:Objective To establish a convenient, quick, repetitive and accurate method of orbital volume
measurement so as to provide effective guidance for plastic and reconstructive treatment of orbital
surgeries. Methods The 3D imaging and graphics technique was used to mark adult orbital characteristics
and extract orbital surface so as to realize the measurement of orbital volume in combination with reverse
engineering software. The sand filling measurement was taken to measure 20 orbital volumes of 10
formal adults as Control Group and to verify the accuracy of the new method. Results In contrast with
Control Group, error control of the measurement results ranged from -2.58% to 2.33% and the degree
of precision was 0.15% to 2.58%. In the same case of one adult, the error variance of the left and right
eye was 1.2% and 1.4%, respectively. Conclusion The method of orbital volume measurement in this
paper is fast and convenient with strong repetitive operation and high precision, which should be widely
promoted clinically.
