Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical value of ultrasound-guided percutaneous catheter drainage combined with absolute alcohol sclerotherapy in the treatment of large hepatic cysts. Methods 28 patients with large hepatic cysts were treated with percutaneous catheter drainage and absolute alcohol sclerotherapy under the guidance of ultrasound. Results 35 cysts were discovered in 28 patients. The diameters of the cysts ranged from 10.3 cm to 19.8 cm and the average diameter was 16.3 cm. All cysts were successfully punctured, and 35 roots of 8F drainage tubes were placed outside of the biliary tracts of all the patients. After 3 months to 2 years follow-up, 34 cases of hepatic cysts were cured without any serious complication which indicated that the cure rate of large hepatic cysts was 97.1%. Conclusion Ultrasound-guided percutaneous catheter drainage combined with absolute alcohol sclerotherapy is a safe and effective method for the treatment of large hepatic cysts.
