Research on Radiation Protective Shielding for Relevant Workplaces of PET Center

Abstract:Objective To explore the calculation method of protective shielding for relevant workplaces of PET center. Methods According to national standards such as GB18871-2002, AAPM TG108 experience-based formula was used to calculate the shielding thicknesses which can meet the requirements of protective shielding of PET/CT room, PET/MRI room and waiting room after PET injection and the shielding calculation method of radiation source was used to calculate the shielding thickness of PET injection room. Then the calculation results of shielding thicknesses were compared with the design results of shielding thicknesses. Results The ranges of shielding thicknesses of PET/CT room, PET/MRI room, PET injection room (the fume hood is excepted) and waiting room after PET injection are 8~21 mmPb equivalents, 8~21 mmPb equivalents, 7~29 mmPb equivalents and 4~24 mmPb equivalents, respectively. Conclusion The design results of shielding thicknesses and the calculation results of shielding thicknesses can meet the requirements of national standards, which indicates that AAPM TG108 experience-based formula can be used in the calculation of protective shielding for relevant workplaces of PET center.
