Effect of Different B Values on Texture Feature Parameters of Diffusion-Weighted Imaging in Brain

Abstract:Objective To compare the difference of texture feature parameters of brain diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) and
explore the changes of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and texture feature of acute cerebral infarction (ACI) with different b
values. Methods A total of 98 healthy subjects and 12 patients with ACI were selected and texture features of DWI sequence axial
images of MRI were analyzed from the aspects of angular second moment, contrast, autocorrelation, inverse difference moment
and entropy. Independent sample t-test and Wilcoxon test were used to compare the difference of texture feature parameters among
the groups. Results The difference of ADC value, angular second moment, contrast, autocorrelation, inverse difference moment
and entropy of the cortex, white matter and head of caudate nucleusin the images with b values=1000 s/mm2 and 3000 s/mm2 were
statistically significant (P<0.05); the ADC value and contrast difference showed a statistical significance in patients with ACI (P<0.05).
Conclusion Different bvalues have influence on the measurement of texture parameters of DWI in the brain, and the bvalue should
be considered as control variable when investigating the texture feature parameters of DWI. The influence of different bvalues should
also be considered when clinically applying the conclusions of previous studies.
