Abstract:Objective To discuss the application and effect of plan-do-check-action (PDCA) cycle management in reducing the failure
rate of endoscopic instruments in the cycle of disinfection and sterilization. Methods From May 2016 to January 2017, 812 pieces
of endoscopic instruments before adopting PDCA cycle management was regarded as a control group. From February to October
2017, 853 pieces of endoscopic instruments adopting PDCA cycle management was used as an experimental group. The PDCA
cycle management was applied to find out the causes of laparoscopic instrument failure in the cycle of disinfection and sterilization.
Corresponding improvement measures were formulated and implemented. Results The failure rate of experimental group was 5.74%
which was lower than that of control group (9.98%), the differences were statistically significant (χ2=10.345, P<0.01). The failure
type of control group was mainly natural aging (59.2%), while the failure type of experimental group was mainly unintentional
damage (56.8%). Conclusion The PDCA cycle management can lower the failure rate of endoscopic instruments effectively as well
as ensure the quality and safety of endoscopy surgery.
