Abstract:Objective To solve the problem of respiratory coordination in chest radiography in infants and
young children. Methods A new X-ray machine exposure time display & control device was designed
based on respiratory-gated devices, which monitored the changes in abdominal pressure during breathing by
using the clamp signal acquisition system and used the STC89C52 single chip computer as the core of signal
processing systems so as to real-timely display the abdominal pressure waveform. Altogether 100 infants
with ages ranging from 1 to 3 years old were scanned by chest X-ray in the hospital, they were randomly
selected and evenly divided into two groups with 50 infants in each group. One group was scanned by
using the conventional method; another group was exposed by using the assistance of the respiratory-gated
method designed this study. Results The exposure result by using the respiratory-gating assisted method
was significantly better than that of the traditional method, with significant difference between the two
groups (P<0.001). Conclusion The exposure time control device of X-ray machine which designed based on
respiratory-gated display devices could provide better quality assurance for chest radiography.
